Denture Bootcamp Series Part I: The New Patient Exam of the Edentulous Patient

Dr. Cassidy covers topics of the TMJ exam/health, bimanual manipulation, soft tissue exam, phonetic analysis, smile parameters, functional pathway, jaw relationship, and the importance of radiographs and photographs.

Dr. Cassidy answers some frequently asked questions and demonstrates how to use Flow-Cast.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part II: Impression Taking Technique

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates a detail-oriented, systematic approach to taking accurate alginate impressions for the edentulous patient, incorporating light/heavy body impression material. He covers communication with the dental assistant, accurate tray-sizing, and tips and tricks for tray insertion. All of which culminates into a master cast for baseplate and occlusal rim/transfer base and speaking wax fabrication.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part III-A: Fabricating Baseplate & Occlusal Rim

In the third part of the series, we break down baseplate and occlusal rim fabrication, along with transfer base and speaking wax fabrication. The first part of this video includes Dr. Cassidy demonstrating an in-depth analysis of the cast and marking the undercuts to be blocked out in preparation for the light-cured base and base trimming in preparation for the wax to be placed.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part III-B: Fabricating Baseplate & Occlusal Rim, Transfer Base & Speaking Wax Cont.

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates applying the wax and establishing the fundamental parameters of occlusal rim dimensions combined with length and width of speaking wax for usage in the closest speaking method. These fundamental parameters are used to establish proper phonetics and preparing to set upper anterior teeth to an “s” clearance.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part IV-A: Diagnostic Records I

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates the use of the baseplate and occlusal rim, along with speaking wax and tooth mould selection in preparation for the wax try-in.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part IV-B: Diagnostic Records II

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates setting the teeth to an “S” clearance, establishing vertical dimension of speech and vertical dimension of occlusion, use of the Facebow and bite record, along with tooth shade selection in preparation for the wax try-in.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part VI: Insertion of the APD

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates processing the relieved APD with the closed-flask system using Flow-Cast. Some of the topics discussed in the video are what you should receive back from the lab (i.e. flask created on denture processed to unblocked-out master cast) and review of systematic cutback of intaglio surface and borders of the denture.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part VII-B: The One-Week Follow-Up

In this video, Dr. Cassidy addresses areas of the basal surfaces that have shown through. He talks specifically about how to capture and maintain the important anatomical structures within the mouth and provides tips and tricks on how to work with Flow-Cast in the clinic and laboratory settings.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part IX: Finalization

Topics in this video include: 3 different centric bite record techniques, Kois-Bow, Insertion of the Flow-Casted duplicate denture, Box, Bead & Pour the provisional dentures and prepare for the lab technician to make the upper/lower dentures.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part XI: Clear Duplicate Fabrication

This video is a continuation of the advantages of using the Lang duplicating flask. The flask has a multitude of uses, not only duplicating an aesthetic replica of the APD, but also providing a clear duplicate that can be relined with impression material, box beaded and poured, and sent to the lab, providing them with all the external tooth position, distance of restorative space, and anatomical landmarks to be married with CT scans for implant placement.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part V: Wax Try-In

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates verifying tooth position, shape, size, and color. While working through phonetics, he verifies jaw relationship, tooth-to-tooth relationship, and tooth-to-lip relationship, ultimately determining VDO and VDS. Through the wax try-in, we also get patient verification of the aforementioned aspects and can give even more detailed information to the laboratory for processing of the APD. The next step will be video of a new insertion with Flow-Cast.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part VII-A: The 24-Hour Adjustment

Dr. Cassidy performs an adjustment of the prosthetics after 24 hours, showing how to interpret where flange and base of denture show through Flow-cast, bur selection, and tips on adding new Flow-Cast to pre-existing.

The bur used in this video can be found here.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part VIII: Fabricating the Duplicate Denture

Dr. Cassidy demonstrates techniques of duplicating the APD/diagnostic denture using putty and a Lang duplicating flask. Duplicating the patient’s pre-existing denture provides many advantages for this stage within the case, such as maintaining the conditioned tissue developed in the case thus far; it provides the patient with a duplicate set of dentures, i.e. “a spare set” once the final denture is completed; and it provides the laboratory ample time to finalize and complete the APD/diagnostic denture.

Denture Bootcamp Series Part X: Insertion

This video is the "exclamation point" to all the videos of the series and to all the hard work put into making a fabulous restoration. A key point is the remount and grind-in procedure that will prevent sore spots by equalizing tissue throughout.
